Methodist Healthcare is further enhancing women’s health offerings in the Northeast Side.

What is happening

Officials with the rebranded Methodist Physicians | Virtuosa Women’s Health – formerly Virtuosa GYN – announced the company’s transition in late May. They added that the clinic will continue to offer the same services with the same staff.

Founded and led by Dr. Susan Crockett, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon, Virtuosa has developed a reputation for extending innovative, patient-centered care for women with simple to complex gynecologic conditions, according to a news release.

Crockett is especially experienced in robotic-assisted surgery and advanced minimally invasive techniques that are designed to help women return to their daily lives more quickly, the release stated.

What they are saying

Jerrica George, CEO of Live Oak-based Methodist Hospital | Northeast, said Virtousa – which sits next to the hospital – helps to expand women’s healthcare offerings for a growing part of the San Antonio area.

Methodist Physicians | Virtuosa Women’s Health offers a range of advanced treatment options, including minimally invasive hysterectomies, minimally invasive treatments for uterine fibroids, fertility-sparing surgeries, endometrial ablation, pelvic organ prolapse correction, urinary incontinence treatment, ovarian cyst removal with fertility preservation, and mesh-free reconstructive surgeries.

“As we look to expand and provide obstetrics services that were not previously available in this clinic, we know this is just the beginning of a new chapter,” George said in a statement. “Dr. Crockett’s reputation, skills and expertise will help us continue advancing women’s healthcare in our community, and we are excited to welcome her and her team to the Methodist family.”

Crockett said the transition is a culmination of a longtime relationship with Methodist Healthcare and HCA Healthcare.

“I’ve been an HCA physician for 31 years and have called Methodist Hospital Northeast home since 2014,” Crockett said in a statement.

“I am incredibly grateful and excited to officially be part of the Methodist family. I’m excited about what our robotics program will continue to accomplish, and I’m especially excited about bringing obstetrics services to this location. That’s a huge step forward for women’s health and for our community.”

Live Oak officials voiced excitement that their city is helping to anchor Methodist Healthcare’s expansion of services for Northeast Side residents.

Methodist Healthcare marked the opening of Methodist Heart and Lung Institute Northeast Specialty Center in Live Oak in mid-May. Additionally, Methodist Hospital | Northeast itself is undergoing a $146 million expansion project, which will include a new patient tower.

“This has clearly been a journey, and it represents growth, progress and a commitment to making a difference,” Mayor Mary Dennis said in a statement. “We are grateful for the investment in women’s healthcare and for the team that will continue serving our community.”

Mayor Pro Tem Bob Tullgren echoed Dennis’ sentiments: “The expansion of services, advanced technology and specialized care being offered here is exactly what our city and region need.”
