This pre-summer edition of Business Briefs features 10 select businesses and healthcare practices that recently opened their doors downtown, near Shavano Park and UT San Antonio, and in Castle Hills, Cibolo, Boerne, Leon Valley, and the West and South sides.
Some of those fledgling ventures include two small businesses that were forced to move after the sudden closure of one North Side indoor market, and the rollout of a new indoor market on the near West Side.
Elsewhere, Live Oak is welcoming a new pickleball venue, and a noted local jewelry chain is opening a new, larger shop in Schertz.
Also, the Pride Center San Antonio is offering an update on fundraising efforts ahead of its relocation from Midtown to the near East Side.

River City Ace Hardware
The hardware store chain hosted grand opening activities June 12-14 for a new Cibolo location. Ace offers a variety of home and decor items, tools, outdoor, lawn and gardening supplies, paint, building supplies, lighting and electrical resources, grillers and more. River City Ace also features Triple E Mercantile, a wool studio that carries wool applique kits and patterns, wool and rug hooking designs.

The Shops at Bandera Road
Grand opening festivities took place June 11-14 for a new indoor market, which has space for 100-plus local vendors. Management is accepting applications now for vendor spaces; vendors offer various products, from handmade apparel and art to home decor and jewelry. The Shops at Bandera Road also has a food court, a snack stand, a bar with beer and wine coolers, and an event center with flexible spaces. Additionally, shoppers can find a billiards lounge and gathering spaces, and look forward to monthly live music and other entertainment.

ApexMed Primary Care
A June 7 grand opening event was held for ApexMed, which offers comprehensive primary medical care with a focus on geriatric patients and those needing chronic disease management. Located just outside Shavano Park city limits, ApexMed also offers laboratory, diagnostic and imaging services.

Her Space
A June 16 grand opening celebration was held for Her Space, where licensed professional counselor Blanca Garcia and her team offer therapy, coaching and community programs for women facing various mental wellness challenges. Her Space also has group therapy and wellness circles, teen and college mental wellness programs, preventative programs, telepsychiatry and teletherapy.

Barefoot Campus Outfitter
The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce held a June 11 ribbon-cutting and grand opening event for the Texas-based Barefoot Campus Outfitter retailer, which specializes in officially licensed apparel, gifts, accessories, and spirit gear for students, alumni, families, and fans. This storefront, the 14th in Barefoot’s portfolio, is all about UTSA apparel and game day gear.

Chasing Camilla/Edge81 Jewelry Studio
Downtown is a new, short-term home for Chasing Camilla, a zarape-inspired mommy and me clothing brand, and Edge81, a jewelry design business. The respective owner/operators of Chasing Camilla and Edge81 – Melissa Rojas and Edith Rosa – previously ran their ventures at Painted Tree Boutiques before the indoor market chain abruptly closed its locations, including north San Antonio, forcing dozens of merchants to close or relocate. Rosa and Rojas hosted a June 6 celebration for their new joint storefront, which they call their “rebound project.” The new location, according to Rosa and Rojas, will remain operational through at least the rest of 2026, as they consider their options for a permanent home.

Collectr District
A grand opening celebration took place May 23 for this locally owned and operated shop, which offers an array of collectibles, including sports, anime, and Pokemon. Items range from merchandise and cards to figures and plushies. Additionally, visitors can enjoy coffee, boba and matcha drinks.

1-On-1 Arcade

James Avery Artisan Jewelry
The Kerrville-based jewelry design and store chain is having a June 20 grand opening event for its new standalone Schertz location at Schertz Station, the master-planned, mixed-use development. James Avery had been operating a storefront inside the Schertz H-E-B for four years. The new Schertz location offers a range of services present at other James Avery shops. The first 100 customers at the new store June 20 will receive a free gift with a purchase.

The Picklr
This chain of pickleball venues is launching its second San Antonio-area location with a June 20 grand opening celebration. The Live Oak location will have 13 courts, a pro shop, locker rooms and showers. The Picklr Live Oak will accommodate a private event area, league play, tournaments and drop-in play. Grand opening festivities will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with prizes, refreshments, a pro exhibition match, a chance to meet professional players, and kids’ activities.

RELOCATING
Pride Center San Antonio
The resource center for the local LGBTQIA+ community is tasked with leaving its Tobin Hill location, the Metropolitan Professional Building, a complex that is undergoing redevelopment, by the end of June. Officials, volunteers and supporters of Pride Center San Antonio are raising funds to help stabilize the organization for the duration of 2026 while the center relocates to a short-term space in the Government Hill neighborhood on the near East Side. The assistance for the short-term space is being provided by the San Antonio AIDS Foundation. The Pride Center reported on social media June 16 that it has raised $20,869 toward a $100,000 goal.
