A Cibolo resident with a history of community volunteerism has been selected to fill an empty school board in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.
The SCUCISD board voted unanimously Sept. 28 to appoint Justin Archbold to the Place 4 seat, replacing Matthew Short, who resigned in early September, a mere nine months into his first term in public office.
SCUCISD trustees spent two meetings in late September interviewing residents who had applied for the Place 4 board vacancy through Sept. 14.
Emerging from a nearly five-hour closed session with candidate interviews Sept. 28, SCUCISD board members agreed to pick Archbold with little discussion in open session.
Archbold has been a Steele High School band booster, and served on SCUCISD community advisory committee, which helped to develop the district’s $295 million bond that voters passed last May.
Archbold recently took part in a Raise Your Hands Texas community leaders fellowship retreat, which concentrated on public education advocacy.
Once Archbold takes the oath of office, he will be free to run in the November 2027 SCUCISD board election, which will include three other board positions. The Place 4 victor can then complete the remainder of Short’s original term, which ends in 2029.
Short is a former SCUCICSD student and educator whose short stint as a trustee was marred by controversies tied to questionable incidents surrounding his time as an educator at SCUCISD and Judson Independent School District.
