This edition of Transit Tracker highlights the launch of the Loop 410/U.S. 281 improvements, a freeway ramp closure on Interstate 10, the delayed start to upgrades on Lookout Road in Live Oak, and the opening of a new low-water crossing bridge around the Bexar/Comal county line.
Also, San Antonio residents are invited to September public meetings about a recently completed sidewalk improvement project in the Tobin Hill neighborhood, and an upcoming drainage project between Castle Hills and Shavano Park.
San Antonio
Construction crews are starting work on the Loop 410/U.S. 281 improvements project. Frontage roads from West Avenue to San Pedro Avenue are reduced to one lane, in both directions, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily through Sept. 18.
There will be alternating mainlane and ramp closures, in both directions, from West Avenue to San Pedro Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily Sept. 20-25 and Sept. 27-Oct. 2.
As part of the Loop 1604 expansion project, contractors began a permanent closure of the eastbound Interstate 10 entrance ramp south of 1604 on Sept. 14. A new exit ramp is anticipated to open later this year as work progresses.
Crews have closed West Woodlawn Avenue between Fredericksburg Road and Michigan Avenue to accommodate construction related to the Capitol Avenue project.
The work is estimated to wrap up and the roadway reopen by the end of October 2026. Construction on Capitol Avenue from Fredericksburg to Mistletoe Avenue recently concluded and the roadway has reopened.
City staff will lead what they are calling a “Sidewalk Social” Sept. 19 in the Tobin Hill neighborhood, inviting residents along North St. Mary’s Street to check out the recently completed sidewalk project.
Supported by the city’s voter-approved 2017 bond, contractors upgraded sidewalks and pedestrian paths along North St. Mary’s between East Mulberry and East Mistletoe avenues.
The Sidewalk Social is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m. at 3420 N. St. Mary’s. Leashed pets are welcome to come along.
The city will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at Barshop Jewish Community Center, 12500 NW Military Hwy., about planned improvements to the George Road low water crossing between Northwest Military and Hunters Bow.
Live Oak
Construction crews working on the Interstate 35 expansion project will close multiple mainlanes on southbound I-35 from Judson Road to O’ Connor Road for bridge cap concrete work between 9 p.m. Sept. 18 and noon Sept. 19.
The three right lanes of the southbound I-35 mainlanes from Judson to O’Connor will be closed while the left lane will remain open to traffic for this duration.
The off ramp from southbound I-35 to O’ Connor Road will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to the next available exit at Weidner Road.
The city of Live Oak will not see work connected to its Lookout Road improvement project until Sept. 23.
City representatives said road work will take place on Lookout between Toepperwein Road and Loop 1604 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and will include removal of existing road markers/reflectors, and installation of 1,148 new road markers/reflectors.
The city is applying upgrades at the Toepperwein/Lookout intersection, including new traffic signals.
Converse
Work continues on a new phase of water line replacement along Toepperwein Road between Kitty Hawk Road and Meadow Forge. Motorists can expect minor delays and slower speed between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
Cibolo
Daily lane closures continue on Farm Road 1103 between Old Wiederstein Road and Orth Avenue 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each weekday through Sept. 18 and again Sept. 28-Oct. 2. Work happening here includes the installation of handrail along the roadway.
Bexar/Comal County
Bexar and Comal counties recently opened to traffic a new Cibolo Creek bridge from Farm Road 1863 to Smithson Valley Road.
The new bridge, the first joint infrastructure project between the two counties, is designed to address flash flooding hazards in the area.
