Motorists traveling Loop 1604 in north San Antonio will soon see a little relief from the ongoing freeway expansion project.

What you should know

The Texas Department of Transportation will open a new bypass on-ramp on eastbound Loop 1604 from Huebner Road through Blanco Road effective Oct. 16.

TxDOT officials said the new ramp will allow drivers to bypass the Blanco Road/Loop 1604 intersection, where work crews are turning that junction into a diverging diamond interchange.

Also of note

Construction contractors will temporarily close the existing eastbound Loop 1604 entrance ramp from Blanco Road, starting Oct. 16.

According to TxDOT officials, eastbound motorists seeking to enter Loop 1604 main lanes after Blanco Road must go through the Stone Oak Parkway intersection and enter the eastbound Loop 1604 main lanes via the entrance ramp west of U.S. 281.

TxDOT representatives recently added that work on Segment 3 of the Loop 1604 expansion project, between Interstate 10 and U.S. 281, is nearly 90% finished and is on track for full completion in spring 2026
