The San Antonio Zoo now has a walking route where visitors can be reminded of the importance of health, well-being and family engagement.

What you should know

Zoo officials hosted an Oct. 29 event with representatives from Methodist Healthcare to celebrate the opening of the Methodist Healthcare Health Walk, a mile-long route through the zoo that is designed to inspire physical activity and mindfulness while visitors connect with nature and wildlife.

According to a press release, guests get a special passport highlighting four animals and health facts while on the health walk, which for them turns into a scavenger hunt, the end of which garners participants a chance to submit their completed passport for a prize at the Valerie Guenther Mariposa Market on site.

What they are saying

Rachel Goldsmith, CEO of Methodist Children’s Hospital, said the Health Walk is a fun, family friendly way for visitors of all ages to enjoy the zoo and get into the spirit of keeping themselves healthy.

“This walk is about more than fitness; it’s about connection. Together, we’re inspiring families across San Antonio to move, learn, and grow healthier—hand in hand with our community,” Goldsmith said in a statement.

Tim Morrow, the zoo’s president and CEO, said it was an honor for his organization to partner with Methodist Healthcare to develop an immersive, purposeful walk for zoo patrons.

“This initiative reflects our shared commitment to building a healthier and more connected community,” Morrow said in a statement.
