Three San Antonio-area suburbs and three school districts are accepting applications through Aug. 17 for city council and school board elections that will be held Nov. 3. The application period started July 20.
The elections scheduled in Converse, Schertz, Windcrest, and East Central, Edgewood and South San Antonio independent school districts will be among many ballot items that local voters will face Nov. 3 alongside contests for top state, Congressional and county offices.
Council Places 2, 4 and 6 are on the city’s ballot. The current officeholders are Renee Paschall, Jessica Hannah, and Nancy Droneburg, respectively.
Paschall and Hannah were appointed by council last spring to their respective posts, and may choose to apply for a full term.
As of July 29, the city had received one application – from parks and recreational commission member Orlando Cruz, for Place 2. These council seats carry two-year terms.
East Central Independent School District
Four East Central ISD school board seats – Districts 1, 2, 5 and 7 – are on the ballot for district residents.
Ginger Friesenhahn, Monique Presas, James Mulkey, and Dell Braziel are the current officeholders, respectively. These school board seats carry four-year terms.
Edgewood Independent School District
Four Edgewood ISD school board positions – Places 1, 2, 3 and 6 – are on the ballot for district residents.
Board President James Hernandez, board Secretary Frank Espinosa, Richard Santoyo and Michael Valdez are the incumbents, respectively. These school board seats carry four-year terms.
Council Places 3, 4 and 5 are on the city’s ballot. As of July 29, incumbents Paul Macaluso, a terminal manager, Benjamin Guerrero, a procurement analyst, and Robert Westbrook, a firefighter, all have filed for re-election. These council seats have three-year terms.
South San Antonio Independent School District
Three school board seats – Districts 1, 4 and 6 – are on the ballot for district residents. Board President Manuel Lopez, trustee Shirley Ibarra, and board Vice President Cynthia Ramirez are the current officeholders. These board seats have four-year terms.
Council Places 1, 2 and 3 are on the city’s ballot. The current incumbents are Susie Hamtilon, Cindy Strzelecki and Greg Turner, respectively. These council posts carry two-year terms.
Oct. 5 is the final day to register to cast a ballot in the Nov. 3 elections. Oct. 23 is the last day to apply for a ballot by mail. Early voting will begin Oct. 19.
