Officials with Methodist Healthcare ended the month of April with two milestone events meant to expand healthcare access for Medina Valley-area residents, and advance midwifery.

Medina Valley emergency room

Leaders from Methodist Healthcare gathered April 30 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Methodist ER | Medina Valley, a free-standing emergency room designed to further extend emergency care access to Medina Valley-area residents.

Located at 12479 U.S. 90 north of the Luckey Ranch subdivision in far west Bexar County, the 11,175 square foot facility will operate as an around-the-clock extension of Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills. The new freestanding ER will have 12 emergency treatment rooms, an onsite laboratory, and advanced imaging capabilities, including CT and radiology.

According to Methodist Healthcare representatives, a freestanding emergency room is more like a neighborhood-focused ER that offers easy access, with features such as convenient parking and shorter wait times.

Construction on Methodist ER | Medina Valley actually started in March 2026 and is slated for completion by March 2027, a press release stated.

Methodist Healthcare officials said the new Medina Valley-area facility is part of their organization’s ongoing efforts to enlarge healthcare access to a fast-growing part of the San Antonio area that extends from Far West Side neighborhoods such as Alamo Ranch and Westover Hills toward Medina County.

In recent months, Methodist Healthcare has overseen the launch of Methodist Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio’s Mariposa Imaging Center at Westover Hills, and the opening of Methodist Physicians | Westover Hills OBGYN.

“As our region continues to grow, so does the need for fast, reliable access to emergency care,” Megan Cool Amalakuhan, Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills CEO, said in a statement.

“For families in Medina Valley and surrounding communities, this free-standing emergency room will mean shorter drive times during emergencies, quicker access to diagnostics and treatment, and greater peace of mind knowing that expert care is close to home.”

Midwife clinic

Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan officials this week marked the grand opening of the new clinic, Methodist Physicians OB/GYN and Midwifery.

Located at 1303 McCullough Ave., Suite 161, the Tobin Hill-based hospital north of the central business district will expand access to maternity care for patients in the surrounding area, Methodist Healthcare representatives said.

According to a press release, the facility is Methodist Healthcare’s first midwifery clinic, introducing certified nurse midwifery services as an additional care option for patients with low-risk pregnancies.
Organization representatives said this type of care is meant to boost a personalized, patient-centered approach while supported by the hospital’s comprehensive obstetric services.

Certified nurse midwives are advanced practice providers who care for women throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

A press release stated that the addition of midwifery services complements Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan’s existing women’s services that include a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and maternal care designation from the state of Texas.

“This clinic expands how we care for patients and supports greater choice in the maternity experience,” Greg Seiler, Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan CEO, said in a statement. “It builds on the exceptional care already provided by our Women’s Services team, empowering families to select the care model that best fits their needs, all with access to the full resources of our hospital.”
