Live Oak residents and leaders are paying their respects to late Live Oak City Councilmember Aaron Dahl, whose death was announced by the city July 10.

A Connecticut native, Dahl moved to Texas where he earned a master’s degree from Texas A&M University. The architect then moved to San Antonio for work in 2003, and in a short time, found his way to Live Oak and made it his permanent home. He was among the first residents to buy a home in Live Oak’s Bridlewood Park neighborhood.

Dahl got more active with the city of Live Oak. He was appointed to the Live Oak Planning and Zoning Commission in 2010, and was elected to City Council in May 2011, where he sat in the Place 5 position until his death. He was instrumental in a push to raze the former Live Oak Civic Center, where a hotel and conference center now sit.

No other details about Dahl’s death have been revealed to the public. He was last re-elected to another two-year term in 2025 when he ran unopposed.

Mayor Mary Dennis said Dahl served with dedication, integrity, humility and compassion.

“Councilmember Dahl exemplified what it means to serve with honor, compassion, and integrity,” Dennis said in a statement. “His dedication to our residents and commitment to making our city a better place will not be forgotten. On behalf of the City Council and our entire organization, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whose lives were touched by his remarkable service.”

According to the city, information about Dahl’s memorial services or opportunities for the public to pay their final respects will be shared as it becomes available.
