Toyota opens rear axle plant
Officials with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas recently announced the launch of the Southwest Side plant’s axle assembly facility.
On a February tour with local leaders and reporters, company representatives said it will be this fall when the rear axle assembly complex starts supplying rear axles for Toyota Tundras and Sequoias built at the neighboring main plant, and for the Toyota Tacomas that are put together in Mexico. The rear axle plant will be completely functional in 2027, Toyota officials added.
Toyota is beginning a process to hire 400-plus workers over a 16-month period to fill positions at the main Tundra and Sequoia construction plant and in the axle assembly facility.
