San Antonio-based nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels held a March 31 ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate the opening of a larger national headquarters.

What is happening

According to a news release, the new, bigger home office in the north central side of town affords Soldiers’ Angels an opportunity to grow a permanent food pantry, and serve even more military-connected households.

Additionally, the office contains an expanded warehouse facility, increasing storage and distribution capacity to better aid deployed military personnel worldwide as well as active duty installations and VA hospitals nationwide, the release stated.

Soldiers’ Angels representatives said the new, larger space at 1355 Central Pkwy. S., Suite 700,  further yields more chances for local volunteers and corporate partners to engage directly in community initiatives.

What they are saying

Officials with Soldiers’ Angels and community partners said food insecurity is affecting many military households nationwide by exacerbating rising costs of living. The organization’s monthly food distribution serves 300-plus area military families each month, and has done so since 2015.

Leaders with Soldiers’ Angels said the larger, new San Antonio headquarters helps the nonprofit’s staff and volunteers to increase capacity, improve logistics, and sustain long-term food assistance programs.

“San Antonio is home to one of the largest military communities in the country, and this new space allows us to better meet their needs while continuing to provide support with dignity, respect, and care,” U.S. Air Force veteran Amy Palmer, Soldiers’ Angels’ president and CEO, said in a statement.

“With a larger pantry and warehouse, we can provide more consistent aid, strengthen partnerships, and continue building a community of care around the Military-connected community.
