There was no majority vote winner in a Dec. 20 special Schertz City Council election.

John Carbon and Dr. Robert Sheridan finished first and second, respectively, in a five-candidate race to replace the late Tim Brown, the Place 7 council member who died in October.

Carbon, a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of the city’s planning and zoning commission, collected 27.7% of the vote, or 172 total votes, according to unofficial Guadalupe County elections data. Carbon also ran for another council seat in Schertz’s Nov. 4, 2025 elections.

Sheridan, a retired Air Force medic and a parks and recreation commission member, finished in second place with 165 votes or 26.6%.

Tony Diaz, Kristy Barger and Tony Swart rounded out the field. The special election prompted a total voter turnout of slightly under 2%.

Carbon will take over a council seat where the remainder of the four-year term ends in November 2027.
