MUSIC

Dec. 5 and 6

Local classical/contemporary music group Agarita and singer/songwriter Azul Barrientos will perform with students from SAY Sí in a show inspired by themes of change and transformation. This program includes new arrangements, original songs by Barrientos, complementary works by Agarita, and multidisciplinary student art. The Dec. 5 performance will be an indoor concert. The Dec. 6 event will be an outdoor community celebration that includes vendors and other multimedia, culminating in a musical performance. 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5; 3 p.m. Dec. 6. STAGE

Dec. 4-6

Harlandale High School’s Dreamcatcher Theatre Production presents, “Hadestown, Teen Edition” by Anaïs Mitchell. The original Tony Award-winning production of “Hadestown” blends the mythical stories of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone, with a trip to the underworld. This student performance will be complete with a live band and set built entirely by the students. 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4-6. Tickets: $10 adults, $7 students. Harlandale High School auditorium, 114 E. Dec. 5

Southwest High School Dragon Drama program will perform “The Alibis,” a series of eight short comedies about crime. 7 p.m. Admission is free. Southwest High School auditorium, 11914 Dragon Lane.

ART

Now through May 10, 2026

Witte Museum is hosting “Unseen Oceans,” a special visiting, multimedia exhibition that takes visitors on a journey from the sunlit surface of the sea to its mysterious depths. Guests will meet the tiniest and biggest organisms, control a virtual submersible, traverse displays of marine species that light up in brilliant hues under special lighting conditions, examine cutting-edge tools and see how scientists are using sonar, laser, robotics and AI to map the ocean floor and protect endangered ecosystems worldwide. Ruby City is hosting “Sensing Meaning, Abstract Painting,” a selection of 20-plus artists’ works from the mid-20th century through today that explore  the art of abstraction. The exhibition runs through Aug. 30. Admission is free. 150 Camp St.

Now through Jan. 4, 2026

Contemporary at Blue Star is hosting the 35th annual Blue Star Red Dot art show and sale fundraiser, featuring dozens of original works by local artists. Patrons may browse art works online or in person. Proceeds go to benefit Contemporary at Blue Star’s various programs and initiatives. 116 Blue Star St.

Now through Jan. 5, 2026

 The DoSeum will host “You’re Invited to Birthday Cake Mountain,” an exhibit that DoSeum’s 2025 artist-in-residence Liza Fishbone created to help celebrate the children museum’s 10th anniversary. A 1,500‑square‑foot gallery is turned into a whimsical, interactive world inspired by the joy of birthdays and the wonder of all things birthday cake. Children and families may wander through a forest of candles, decorate their own birthday cakes and stroll around a radiant sunflower sun. The exhibit runs through Jan. 5. Entry by regular museum admission. 2800 Broadway St.

Dec. 6

Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation will present “Artistic Animals,” an annual fundraiser featuring 50-plus paintings created by goats, donkeys, primates, and other animals. Proceeds will benefit WRR’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and release native wildlife, as well as provide sanctuary, individualized care for other animals in need. 6-9 p.m. Admission is free; RSVP is encouraged. LITERATURE

Dec. 6

Book Nerd bookstore will host a variety of events throughout the day. Visitors can make their own bookmark or crafts between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. A holiday storytime session begins at 2 p.m. Book Nerd will also take part in a holiday popup next door at Suite 114 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. with Santa Claus visiting between noon and 2 p.m. Admission is free. 2211 NW Military Hwy., Suite 118, Castle Hills

CINEMA

Dec. 10

Students from University of Texas at San Antonio’s Film and Media program will show 30-plus new student movies and documentaries, plus films created by student filmmakers from East Central High School and Communication Arts High School, at Santikos Palladium. The event will feature the capstone film, “People Who Crawl,” which was partially filmed on site at a ranch in La Vernia, along with creations from UTSA animation and visual effects students. 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. 17703 I-10 W.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Dec. 5

Fifth Friday @ Five Points is a pop-up market that involves neighborhood and local merchants, vendors and artisans selling a variety of handcrafted items. There will also be karaoke and Loteria. 6-10 p.m. Admission is free. 1202 N. Flores St., Suite 101.

Dec. 5-7

The inaugural San Antonio Marathon will feature a full marathon and a half marathon, each of which is now sold out. There will also be an SATX 5K on the evening of Dec. 5 at Hemisfair, and a San Antonio Marathon Expo Dec. 5 and 6 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, showcasing fitness, wellness, and community partners. The marathon course will start at 7:15 a.m. Dec. 7 at Main Plaza, and cover Midtown, the Alamo Heights area and downtown before ending up at Hemisfair. More than 18,000 runners from all 50 states and 25 countries will participate in the marathons.

Dec. 6

Universal City Professional Firefighters Association will have an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast fundraiser. 7-11 a.m. Admission: $5 per person ages 12-older, free for children 11-under. Universal City Fire Station, 2160 Universal City Blvd.

Dec. 6

The public is invited to a grand reopening of Las Palmas Library, which has undergone a $7 million, 2 1/2-year renovation project. The event will start with a ribbon-cutting, and include refreshments, crafts and other family friendly activities, performances by local school groups, a digital photo booth, and a community resource fair. 10 a.m.-noon. 515 Castroville Road.
