In recognition of Make A Difference Day, VIA Metropolitan Transit will offer fare-free all day long Oct. 25 across its whole system.
What you should know
Partnering with the city of San Antonio, VIA is inviting the public to use its Park and Ride service and visit key events and destinations in the San Antonio area, including Muertos Fest at Hemisfair and the Paul McCartney concert at the Alamodome.
According to a press release, with a heavy amount of traffic congestion expected on Oct. 25, VIA officials and organizers of major downtown-area events encourage community members to use public transit.
People attending the Paul McCartney concert and/or Muertos Fest are urged to ride VIA’s Primo rapid service using the Primo 100 route through the heart of downtown for free until midnight. One-way trips are permitted, and bus service ends at midnight, VIA officials said.
What they are saying
Because Oct. 25 is also Make A Difference Day, VIA feels it can positively affect people who are looking to enjoy seasonal activities and other events taking place on the final Saturday before Halloween.
“Make A Difference Day is about creating positive impacts, something we strive to do every day at VIA,” VIA President and CEO Jon Gary Herrera said in a statement.
“Offering fare-free service for this Saturday is aimed at encouraging our community to experience the connections and benefits of public transit. This aligns with our ultimate goal of fostering greater mobility, building stronger connections to jobs and schools and earning the trust of the people we serve.”
