Registered neighborhood associations in San Antonio City Council District 8 may get their cluster mailboxes improved or replaced with little effort.

What you should know

District 8 Council member Ivalis Meza Gonzalez announced on Oct. 21 that her office was introducing a Replacement Anti-Theft Mailbox Program (RAMP), a pilot initiative designed to enhance and improve security around cluster mailboxes in residential neighborhoods.

According to Gonzalez’s announcement, the program is financed by Council District 8 discretionary funds, and was created to help make neighborhoods safer and prevent mail theft through the installation of new or better lighting, and/or the overhauling of cluster mailbox structures.

Eligible neighborhood associations in District 8 may apply at this link for a matching grant to replace cluster mailboxes and/or add lighting near mailbox areas.

The Council District 8 office will match neighborhood contributions up to $2,000 for new mailboxes and $500 for lighting, the announcement stated. Gonzalez said this is a competitive process, and applications will be reviewed based on need and available funding.

What they are saying

Gonzalez said many constituents have shared stories about mail theft and the trouble that results from stolen packages, sensitive information falling into the hands of strangers, and struggles to have to travel crosstown to retrieve their mail.

“We heard you. RAMP was created to help neighborhoods take action and replace vulnerable mailboxes with safer, more reliable ones. Together, we can protect our deliveries, privacy, and sense of security at home,” Gonzalez said in the statement.
