City leaders gathered with Methodist Healthcare officials on Dec. 5 to celebrate the grand opening of the newly expanded emergency department at Methodist Hospital | Landmark.

What is happening

Methodist Healthcare officials said the $3.5 million expansion project, which took place during the first half of this year, resulted in growing the number of emergency beds from three to nine. Methodist Healthcare officials also said the expansion of the Northwest Side hospital enhances   room design and patient flow, and supports both lower-acuity needs and more complex, higher-level emergencies.

What they are saying

Ryan Simpson, CEO of Methodist Hospital | Landmark, said the expansion was needed to help physicians and staff at his hospital ER to keep pace with residential and commercial growth on the Northwest Side.

“This expansion strengthens our ability to provide the right level of care at the right time, backed by the full resources of the Methodist Healthcare network. We are proud to expand our role as a light on the hill for those who need us most,” he said in a statement.
