Jessica Hannah, who most recently served on the Converse Economic Development Corp. board, is now the newest member of Converse City Council.

Council voted 3-2 March 17 to appoint Hannah to Place 4 seat, replacing Sylvia Meyer, who recently departed the council after serving little more than three years.

However, local leaders must still fill another council vacancy – the Place 2 post, where Deborah James parted ways with the city earlier this month.

In the meantime, city officials and residents are getting acquainted with the newly appointed council representative. Hannah is a five-year Converse resident who possesses degrees in social work and business administration, and works as donor relations director for Communities In Schools-San Antonio.

Hannah and seven other residents applied for the Place 4 position, including former council members Christopher Clark, Marc Gilbert, Jeff Beehler and Renee Paschall.

Following brief interviews of the candidates, in the first round of nominations for the Place 4 appointment, a majority of council members backed Hannah.

Hannah received votes from Councilmembers Kassandra Leon, Stephanie Gonzalez and Stacey Adams Sr. Mayor Al Suarez and Councilmember Nancy Droneburg voted against Hannah.

Hannah will now serve out the remainder of Meyer’s remaining term in office, which expires during this November’s general election.

Eligible Converse residents have until 5 p.m. March 24 to apply for the Place 2 council vacancy. More information about applying for the vacancy can be found at this link.

Council will interview applicants and approve a Place 2 appointment on April 1.
