Bexar County leaders have approved agreements to activate grant-funded projects in three small cities.
Bexar County commissioners meeting Feb. 3 passed a consent agenda that included infrastructure agreements concerning three separate initiatives, with each involving a Community Development Block Grant.
One agreement supports a $118,540 CDBG, which will help to fund repairs at the Kirby Senior Center.
The facility was originally built using CDBG funding. Money for programming at the non-profit senior center is funded by various community grants.
County commissioners also approved an infrastructure agreement supporting a $590,423 grant, which helps to fund the replacement of a sewer main on Locker Lane in Leon Valley’s Castle Estates neighborhood.

According to Leon Valley officials, homes on Locker Lane are currently on septic systems, and several residents have voiced an interest in connecting to the city’s sewer system. Many houses in the neighborhood were built in the 1960s and have aging septic systems, local leaders added.
A third infrastructure agreement passed by commissioners court supports a $480,000 CDBG, which will help to fund improvements on Westway Drive in Universal City.
Westway Drive is located in the Aviation District area, an older neighborhood in Universal City that lies close to Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.
