The Alamo Colleges District board will meet Nov. 10 to formally accept the resignation of trustee Gloria Ray, and decide how to replace her.

What you should know

The ADC announced Oct. 29 that Ray, the District 2 board representative, submitted her resignation effective Oct. 25.

Ray, a retired senior official at the former Kelly Air Force Base, was elected to the board in 2020. Prior to that, she chaired the district’s Citizens Advisory Committees for multiple capital improvement projects. She also has been a key figure with the Fiesta San Antonio Commission and the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. March Commission.

What they are saying

In her resignation letter, Ray said serving the district’s students, faculty, staff and communities as “one of the greatest honors” of her public service career, according to a press release.

“Trustee Ray has dedicated many years to the Alamo Colleges District and the people we serve,” current ACD board Chair Joe Alderete, Jr. said in a statement. “Her belief in the power of education, her commitment to District 2 and her leadership on behalf of our students have made a lasting difference.”

District Chancellor Mike Flores highlighted Ray’s support for growing ACD’s educational workforce training opportunities.

“Trustee Ray has been a champion for our students and a dedicated supporter of our mission. We are grateful for her leadership and for the many ways she has helped create opportunities for the communities we serve,” Flores said in a statement.

What’s next

According to a press release, district officials intend to establish a process for accepting and reviewing applicants and appointing an interim trustee for District 2, which covers much of the East Side.
