Schertz voters will see a full slate of candidates in the city’s Nov. 3 City Council election.

PLACE 3

Paul Macaluso is seeking a second three-year term in office. Having developed a career in transportation management, Macaluso previously served on the city’s economic development board, where he was president for five years. He also volunteers with the Buffalo Valley Youth Association.

Macaluso did not respond to Focus on San Antonio’s voters’ guide questionnaire, but he has indicated on his Facebook campaign page that he advocates public safety, maintaining a high quality of life, and a business friendly environment.

Billie Langhus, a retiree, did not respond to Focus on San Antonio’s voters’ guide questionnaire.

PLACE 4

Benjamin Guerrero was appointed to the Place 4 council seat in January 2025, and now seeks a full three-year term.

Guerrero is a federal government contract specialist who previously served with the city’s charter review board. His priorities are promoting conservative values and common sense, supporting the town’s emergency first responders, and maintaining road and drainage infrastructure.

“I am running for office because I want to continue serving the residents of Schertz. I want to continue to represent the city of Schertz, and I want to keep the quality of life in Schertz,” he added.

Kenneth Ratcliff is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel who has served as a USAF attorney, and is a member of the Texas Bar Association.

Ratcliff has also served as a preacher for several Church of Christ congregations, including the existing Church of Christ in Schertz. He also served with the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District board, including a time as its president.

Ratcliff said he feels the council could benefit from his professional experiences, and his educational background, which includes possessing a juris doctorate, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration.

Ratcliff’s goals, if elected, are to ensure the city has qualified employees who are receiving an

appropriate salary, maintain high-quality basic city services, prevent residential areas from becoming overly crowded, and to help develop a more diverse mix of age groups within Schertz’s population.

“I am running for the office as I thought that I might be of some service to the community,” he added.

PLACE 5

Jonathon Marquez, a maintenance coordinator with Sysco, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
