Toyota Motor Corp.
As previously reported by Focus on San Antonio, Toyota Motor North America officially announced July 6 that it will enlarge its South Side manufacturing campus with the addition of a 2.5 million-square-foot assembly line.
The Japanese automaker confirmed it will spend $3.6 billion to double the size of its south San Antonio site, also known as Toyota Texas, and transition Tacoma production from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California to the Toyota Texas plant over a four-year period.
According to a July 6 press release, the local expansion project will create 2,000 jobs by 2030, when the new assembly line becomes operational.
“Toyota has become an essential part of our city’s identity, and this new investment will continue Toyota’s legacy of uplifting our South Side residents, breaking cycles of poverty, and providing lasting skills and good-paying jobs,” State Rep. John Lujan said in an announcement.
