Sarah Dietz and Raquel Gutierrez are headed to a runoff election to vie for the vacant Schertz City Council Place 6 seat, the result of a special April 4 election.

According to Guadalupe County elections data after the polls closed April 4, Dietz, a realtor and former local teacher, had collected 45% of the vote from the 11-day early voting period and Election Day balloting.

Raquel Gutierrez, wife of former Mayor Ralph Gutierrez and an active community volunteer, had received 39.9% of the vote.

Dietz and Gutierrez were the top two vote-getters, but because neither succeeded in clearing the 50% threshold, a runoff election will determine a victor. Council will set that election date.

The winner will replace Allison Heyward, who resigned to compete in the March 3 GOP primary for Guadalupe County Precinct 3 commissioner. She lost the race to current Commissioner Jim Wolverton. This term in office expires in November 2027.

Tiffany Gibson, a former Schertz council member, finished third in the April 4 election with 13%, followed by Luz Ares.

Dietz campaigned on issues such as responsible city growth, economic development and public safety among her top campaign priorities.

Gutierrez focused on issues such as ensuring proper streets and drainage for responsible growth, fiscal accountability, adequate public safety, and protecting the community’s quality of life.

County officials recorded a 3.7% voter turnout in this second special Schertz City Council election that voters have encountered since the start of 2026.
