Dr. Robert Sheridan was the winner of a Jan. 31 runoff election to fill a vacant Schertz City Council seat.

Sheridan, a retired Air Force medic and a parks and recreation commission member, received 65% of the vote to beat John Carbon, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a current city planning and zoning commissioner, according to unofficial Guadalupe County election totals.

Sheridan will replace the late Tim Brown, the Place 7 council member who died last October, and fill a term that expires in November 2027.

Sheridan placed second behind Carbon in a special Dec. 20 election that fielded five total candidates. Because none of the candidates cleared 50% of the vote on Dec. 20, a runoff election was needed to decide the contest.

Election reports showed Sheridan prevailed in both early voting and Election Day balloting. Approximately 2.28% of Schertz voters cast a ballot in the runoff election.
