Grocery chain H-E-B is kicking off the new year by opening its newest far West Side store.
A grand opening took place at 6 a.m. Jan. 7 for the retailer’s nearly 127,000-square-foot store at 15489 Culebra Road near Texas 211.
The company began construction on the $29 million store in August 2024 and wrapped up work in fall 2025.
Situated west of the growing Alamo Ranch neighborhood, H-E-B’s new store will feature amenities such as a gas station, car wash, a drive-thru pharmacy, curbside pick-up spaces, and a Texas Backyard with plants, barbecue grills and other outdoor essentials.
The new store will also have a True Texas BBQ restaurant, which features slow-cooked barbecue dishes such as meat plates with up to three kinds of meat, sandwiches, brisket nachos, and brisket queso with tortilla chips.
Meats by the pound, such as prime brisket, St. Louis pork ribs, turkey breast, sauced pulled pork and sausage links. True Texas BBQ patrons also have access to sides, desserts and a full bar. This is the seventh H-E-B True Texas BBQ location in the San Antonio area.
The new store also offers home delivery with service to the Lakehills, Medina Lake, and Mico areas. The U.S. 90 and Texas 211 corridors in far west Bexar County and eastern Medina County have seen a surge of residential and commercial growth in recent years.
Beto Ardilla, general manager for this new far West Side H-E-B, said many residents in the fast-growing area have spent a long time waiting for the retailer to bring a storefront to their neck of the woods.
The grand opening activities included cheerleaders from nearby Harlan and Medina Valley high schools cheering on the store’s first customers, shoppers receiving H-E-B-branded scarves, and the company presenting checks totaling $45,000 to the Medina Valley Education Foundation, Bandera ISD Education Foundation, and Northside Education Foundation.
“Our store partners are thrilled to finally open our doors to this amazing community,” Ardilla said in a statement. “This has been a highly anticipated store, and our partners are ready to serve our customers with top-notch service, great selection, and a quality shopping experience.”
The last time H-E-B opened a San Antonio store was last August, with the launch of a 111,000-square-foot facility at 7330 N. Loop 1604 W. near the University of Texas at San Antonio.
