Bexar County voters passed three of five proposals contained in the North East Independent School District’s $495 million bond on Nov. 4.

What you should know

Prior to the election, NEISD officials said an approved bond will support only a range of renovation projects at existing campuses and facilities districtwide, but no new construction would be taking place anytime soon. They also said no property taxes will be affected by an approved bond.

However, just two of the proposals prevailed with significant margins, with a third narrowly passing, a fourth barely losing, and a fifth being soundly rejected.

Proposition A, which will allocate $400 million for school infrastructure repairs and updates at existing campuses, as well as the purchase of new school buses, received 60% voter approval.

Proposition B, which will set aside $53.4 million for classroom technology upgrades districtwide, passed with 56%.

Proposition C, which would provide $29.1 million for renovation and expansion of small to midsized NEISD athletic facilities, was approved with 50.1%, or 140 votes.

Proposition D, which would have allocated $9.6 million for improvements at Comalander Stadium and Heroes Stadium, was defeated with only 47% of the voter approval.

Proposition E, which would have set aside $2.3 million for improvements at Walker Natatorium and Josh Davis Natatorium, received only 49.7% voter approval.

NEISD officials offered a formal statement about the bond election results, saying the approved segments of the bond will fund critical infrastructure needs, such as new heating/ventilation/air conditioning systems, mechanical, plumbing and electrical upgrades, new school buses and police patrol vehicles, and improvements to classroom technology, and campus cybersecurity.

“In addition, the approved bond projects include numerous renovations to Littleton Gym and the Blossom Athletic Center, improving the experiences of our guests and student athletes greatly,” district officials stated.
