October has been a busy month in the Live Oak business community, which welcomed a specialty sports retail superstore, a pickleball venue, and a pet groomer all within a few weeks time.
Dick’s House of Sport
Live Oak is home to the San Antonio-area’s first Dick’s House of Sport, a new concept store from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
A grand opening celebration was held Oct. 24 to kick off a week of festivities at the new 100,000-square-foot store, including appearances by San Antonio Spur Stephon Castle, former UTSA star quarterback Frank Harris, and the Veterans Memorial High School cheerleaders and drumline.
Dick’s House of Sport does include traditional retail store features, but its focus is on an array of interactive sporting experiences, such as rock climbing walls, batting cages, golf simulators, and a field with a running track.
Dick’s House of Sport also provides golf club fittings, golf lessons and equipment repairs.

Texas Pickle Hall
This new indoor pickleball facility opened to the public Oct. 3, and hosted a week of free pickleball, giving community members a chance to check out the new venue.
Texas Pickle Hall contains nearly 29,000 square feet of playing space, a pro shop, eco-friendly air filtration, and can accommodate special events and tournaments for all skill levels year-round. Paddles may be rented at the club, and balls are available for purchase.
Monthly membership rates start at $66.50, but non-members may sign up to play at the venue by registering on the Texas Pickle Hall app.

Honeybee Grooming
Owner/operator Hailey Carroll hosted an Oct. 6 grand opening for her kennel-free pet grooming salon.
Honeybee’s specialty services include de-shedding, double coats and large/giant breeds, tiny/small dogs, curly coats, and senior canines. Cats are welcome, too.
