2 new long-term North Side roadway closures get underway

Construction crews overseeing two North Side freeway projects were set to begin months-long closures Feb. 23.

Loop 1604

Contractors are closing the westbound Loop 1604 entrance ramp from O’Connor Road as part of the ongoing freeway expansion and improvement project. This ramp closure is scheduled to last through June. 

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, drivers on the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road seeking to enter the westbound freeway mainlanes from O’Connor Road must continue and use the entrance ramp after Bulverde Road.

Interstate 10

Workers taking part in the same Loop 1604 project are closing the left lane of the westbound Interstate 10 frontage road from north of La Cantera Parkway to Rim Drive. This closure is expected to last through late spring 2026.

In the same area, construction crews are currently closing the La Cantera Parkway/I-10 intersection, including U-turns, 10 p.m.-5 a.m. daily now through March 1. 

Motorists going eastbound on the I-10 frontage road to La Cantera Parkway must continue on the eastbound I-10 frontage road through the Loop 1604 interchange, using the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard..

Motorists going westbound on the I-10 frontage road to La Cantera Parkway must continue on the westbound I-10 frontage road and use the U-turn at Camp Bullis Road.
